Tuscaloosa mom charged after son’s accidental shooting during TikTok recording
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A mother is accused of providing false information to Tuscaloosa Police after her son accidentally shot his girlfriend while recording a video for TikTok, according to court records.
Sanchessica Fields is charged with endangering welfare of a child, giving false name to officers, obstructing government operations, and tampering with physical evidence.
Tuscaloosa Police first interviewed Fields and her son on Jan. 5 at DCH Regional Medical Center following the shooting. The victim, a juvenile, was shot in the abdomen.
According to a deposition, Fields first told officers she was driving her son and the victim when the victim started yelling at a woman in another car while they were stopped at a traffic light.
They pulled away and were followed by the other car, according to the officer’s notes, and said when they stopped, the victim got out and started yelling at the woman and man in the other car, who also got out of their car.
They reported hearing a single shot and after realizing the victim was shot, took her to the hospital.
“[The mother and son] do not know who the male and female were from the other vehicle but they said they feel like the juvenile victim knew the female,” according to court records.
Investigators said Fields and her son also gave them a false address when interviewed, and when they spoke to them a second time, they were given another story about what happened.
In this telling of events, according to a deposition, Fields’ son said his girlfriend was in his bedroom and he accidentally shot her while moving a gun out of the way so she could sit down.
He also said his girlfriend told him to tell police a different story about what happened, and that his mother took to the gun to a family member’s house to “get rid of it,” according to records.
Officers got a different story from the victim.
She told investigators that she was shot by her boyfriend while he was recording a video for TikTok.
