#new. Hours after Trump captured Maduro, President Emmanuel Macron reportedly failed in his plot to take down African President
Independent reports allege that French-backed elements, described by some as "puppets" of Macron, orchestrated the failed bid to seize the presidential palace from Burkina Faso's President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, around 1 a.m. local time.
According to reports, Burkinabè security forces stopped the plot, arresting several suspects, including alleged European mercenaries and a person linked to former interim President Paul-Henri Sandaog.
Thousands of citizens—primarily young men—mobilized to the presidential palace when they heard rumors about the attempted coup. These supporters reportedly formed human shields, to protect their leader.
The allegations show desperation from France, accused of clinging to African resources to prop up its fading global influence.
Critics say this fits a pattern where economic dependencies—like control over uranium mines and monetary policies via the CFA franc—are weaponized to destabilize regimes that won't submit.
Traoré, a 36-year-old military officer with anti-western values, rose to power promising to combat Islamist jihadist insurgencies, reclaim national assets and hold democratic elections - none of which have happened.
He also passed laws criminalizing homosexuality and allowing the government to strip citizenship from people who criticize him.
He openly challenged French dominance by kicking troops out in 2023
