‼️ UPDATE: Mother Says Missing Kansas Teen Was Attacked by Dogs 😢
PLEASANTON, Kan. — The body of 13-year-old Airen Andula was discovered last Monday in a ravine in Bates County, Missouri, two days after he was reported missing.
Airen was last seen Sunday morning in his Holiday Lakes neighborhood, where he left home on his bicycle to feed pets for a neighbor. When he did not return, a multi-agency search was launched across the area.
The search ended tragically when investigators located Airen’s body in a remote creek bed approximately 30 miles from his home.
A 47-year-old Pleasanton man, Damon Leonard, has been charged in connection with the case. Court records show Leonard was arrested in Bates County, Missouri, and charged with felony abandonment of a corpse. He is currently being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond. Authorities in Missouri say additional charges are likely to be filed in Kansas.
According to charging documents, Leonard contacted police on Tuesday and told them he knew where Airen’s body could be found. Deputies followed Leonard to a wooded area, where the teen’s body was recovered. A probable cause statement alleges Leonard admitted to transporting Airen from Kansas to Missouri and leaving his body in the ravine.
While law enforcement has not officially released Airen’s cause of death, his mother shared new details in an interview with FOX4, saying investigators told her her son had been attacked by dogs.
“I asked them how did he die,” said Airen’s mother, Gunn. “He said he was attacked by animals — found in the woods, attacked by animals.”
Investigators reportedly told Gunn there were nearly a dozen dogs at Leonard’s home when authorities arrived to investigate on Monday.
“This is beyond devastating — I have no words for it,” Gunn said. “He was such a sweet boy. Airen was never in trouble. He didn’t go far from home, and he never left without telling us where he was going. We knew something wasn’t right.”
Leonard is scheduled to appear in Missouri court on January 15, 2026. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding Airen Andula’s death.
