December 26th marked the two year anniversary of when Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra Were Found
Savanah Nicole Soto (18) — who was nine-months pregnant — and her boyfriend Matthew Guerra (22) disappeared on December 22, 2023. Both were reported missing after failing to show up for her scheduled induction.
On December 26, 2023, their bodies were found inside Guerra’s parked car at an apartment complex on the Northwest Side of San Antonio. Law enforcement later determined both had been shot to death, and Soto’s unborn child also died.
Police believe they were killed somewhere else and then their bodies were moved to the location where the car was found.
Surveillance video played a major role in finding them and making arrests. Police released footage showing two vehicles, one being a dark pickup (linked to the suspects) and the victims’ car, seen near the crime scene shortly before the bodies were found.
They were able to trace the owner of the truck back to a man named Ramon Preciado. After a thorough investigation, his son Christopher Preciado (19) was arrested and charged with capital murder (multiple victims) and related counts including abuse of a corpse and concealment. Police allege: he shot Soto and Guerra during what investigators have suggested was a drug deal gone wrong.
Ramon Preciado (53) was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence for allegedly helping move the victims’ bodies after the killings.
Myrta Romanos (47) — Step-mother of Christopher and wife of Ramon- was also arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, altering/destroying/concealing a human corpse. She lived with Christopher and his father and was seen on surveillance around the time of the murders. Authorities say the gun believed to be used belonged to her, and she tried to hide it during a search of their home. In November 2025, a judge dismissed all charges against her because prosecutors were not ready for trial — key forensic evidence was not completed in time. The state could re-file charges later once DNA/fingerprint testing is done.
Ramon posted bond ($450,000) and was released in February 2025. His trial has been delayed and coordination with Christopher’s capital murder proceedings continues.
Christopher remains in jail, held on a $1 million bond, and is scheduled for a capital murder trial on February 2, 2026. Prosecutors reviewed the case but declined to seek the death penalty; if convicted, he faces life in prison without parole.
The families of Soto and Guerra have filed a civil lawsuit seeking over $1 million in damages against the Preciado family for the deaths and suffering caused. Family members have expressed frustration with the pace of justice and advocated publicly for harsher penalties, including support for the death penalty before prosecutors declined it in the criminal case.
