Body of Texas officer who went missing during flooding disaster found
ODESSA, Texas — The Odessa community is in mourning following the tragic death of Odessa Police Officer Bailey Martin, whose body was located and positively identified this week in Travis County.
According to the Odessa Police Department (OPD), Martin passing has been confirmed and next-of-kin have been notified.
A representative from OPD is currently at the Travis County facility, working to ensure Martin's remains are released to his family and returned to Odessa.
Members of the Honor Guard and fellow officers close to Martin will personally escort him home.
“We are deeply saddened to share with our community that Officer Bailey Martin has been found and, tragically, is deceased,” OPD said. “Our prayers go out to his family and to everyone affected by this devastating natural disaster.”
The department also noted that Martin’s family has suffered multiple losses during this time and requested privacy on their behalf.
In tribute, OPD officers have placed mourning bands over their badges, and the department’s flags have been lowered to half-staff. The department is encouraging citizens to honor Martin’s memory by replacing their porch lights with blue bulbs throughout the week.
Plans for public memorials or services have not yet been announced.
